Maggie has her eye on an old Nissan, but a certain rusty, banged up '63 VW Bug seems to be clamoring for her attention. To her surprise, Maggie leaves the lot with Herbie. Like any respectable teen movie this film was full of overly used songs and poorly executed covers. Here are a few to sample.

Before release, Disney decided that Lindsay Lohan was a bit too busty for the image they wanted for the film, and used digital techniques to reduce her bust size.
Four Herbies were made for the rail-riding stunt in the first race. One was made to jump up the rail, and two were made to ride on the rail.
The original script was green-lit largely because the studio liked its decisions to A) place the Herbie character into a realistic world and B) make Herbie's powers subtle, and presented in small increments. Later script revisions ended up presenting a more cartoonish and fantasy-based world.
Lindsay Lohan became upset after the film's premiere after discovering her single "First" was placed during the end credits, and not during the big race scene.
Herbie The Love Bug was a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle deluxe ragtop sedan painted in Volkswagen L87 pearl white. Under normal circumstances, the interior would be a matching white. However, Herbie's interior was painted a special non-reflective grey color so the camera and studio lights would not reflect.
The entire Herbie franchise is featured on Disney+
