Moana (2016)."If you start singing, I'm gonna throw up."

It's been a long few weeks but we REALLY needed time to attend to life outside of the podcast. And we are so excited to be back and better than ever picking up where we left off with Moana from 2016. What a great film to come back with.

This week we know the way to ancient Polynesia...how far we'll go...no one knows. Not even us....well spoiler alert...we do so how about you join us and find out too.

Storyline :Moana Waialiki is a sea voyaging enthusiast and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When her island's fishermen can't catch any fish and the crops fail, she learns that the demigod Maui caused the blight by stealing the heart of the goddess, Te Fiti. The only way to heal the island is to persuade Maui to return Te Fiti's heart, so Moana sets off on an epic journey across the Pacific. The film is based on stories from Polynesian mythology.

Directors: Ron Clements, John Musker, and Don Hall

Writers: Ron Clements, John Musker, and Jared Bush

Awards: 22 Wins & 90 Nominations

Film Budget: $150,000,000

Gross Worldwide: $682,685,900

A return to classic Disney musical style. Moana produces some of the best modern musical songs out there. We normally aren't huge Linn-Manual Miranda fans in this household but we gotta give it to him this time.

The Ocean is Calling

  1. Dwayne Johnson believes that voice acting is the most difficult career in acting, and is personally annoyed when celebrities are cast in animated films despite voicing their characters badly. When Johnson was cast for the film, he repeatedly asked the other voice actors present if he was really giving a good performance.

  2. The tattoos on Chief Tui's abdomen are the same tattoos worn by pro wrestler Peter Fanene Maivia, Dwayne Johnson's maternal grandfather.

  3. The black patches of rock that peek out from under sand and vegetation on Motunui is solidified Pahoehoe, Hawaiian for "smooth, unbroken lava." That means Motunui is a volcanic island that has risen, or been "pulled", out of the sea.

  4. In real life, the decorator crab glues mollusk shells and invertebrates, like sea anemones and sponges, onto its shell.

  5. Auli'i Cravalho said she didn't meet Dwayne Johnson until they did a photo shoot together, after all actors were done recording their voice work.

We are so glad we can revisit this film again and again right here on Disney+. Why Disney has decided this movies needs a live action reboot is beyond us.
